The Thomson High School Jump-start Program is the now re-titled apprenticeship program directed by Mr. Bill Beckum. Mr. Beckum stated, “Jump-start would be more of a fresh name to add more excitement to the program.” The Jump-start program seeks to prepare students for secondary schooling as well as work in a specific career area.  This school year there have been more than forty students in the program, which has been two times what we have had in the past couple years. The apprentices in which the students work in can be paid or mentored; about two-thirds of the apprentices are paid. The majority of the students in the program enjoy being away from the school to engage in an actual hands on experience in their future career field. Mr. Beckum also stated. “I hope to see it increase next year, but I would also like to see more areas of work.”
